Medigold Health Consultancy Ltd ("Medigold") was founded in March 1998 as a vehicle for a Management-Buy-Out of the Sedgwick Noble Lowndes Occupational Health Consultancy.
Medigold is jointly owned by Dr Mike Goldsmith, who initiated and led the MBO, and his wife Amanda. Mike has in excess of 27 years experience of occupational and insurance medicine, and is still very much 'hands-on' in a team that was originally founded in 1986.
The Medigold team was originally founded in 1986 as the Medical Services Division of Medisure, Britain's largest third party insurance administrator. Medisure was sold to the Sedgwick Group in 1993 and it is through this acquisition that the Sedgwick Noble Lowndes Occupational Health Consultancy developed.
Therefore, the current expertise has been built up over the last 20 years and Medigold has a client base going back this length of time. At the time of the MBO there were 100 corporate clients and each was invited by Medigold and Sedgwick to choose whether to become clients of either Medigold or Sedgwick. Every one of the 100 transferred to Medigold and the vast majority have remained with us since. Our total client base now numbers in excess of 350, and we have an excellent client retention rate.
Since 1998 Medigold has steadily grown its business organically from an organisation with 8 employees in 1998, to 61 employees as of April 2007. Medigold has a UK network of 20 Occupational Health Physicians and a further number of highly qualified Occupational Health Advisors and Specialist Rehabilitation Nurses.
Medigold are now one of the most established and successful providers of occupational health services and risk management advice in the UK.
Medigold has 4 main regional UK offices situated in London (Harley St. area), Manchester, Bristol and Northampton (Headquarters). This spread of main 'hub' offices provides Medigold with a solid base from which to operate successfully throughout the UK. These offices are always permanently staffed with both administrative and clinical personnel. In August 2006 Medigold moved into a new Headquarters building in Northampton, Medigold House. Medigold House is a purpose built state of the art Occupational Health Centre with a number of treatment, consulting and nursing suites and enables us to further enhance the services available to current and future clients. Medigold House provides our Northampton staff with an excellent working environment and has fully operational lecture and seminar facilities.
In August 2001, Medigold was granted a Training License for its Manchester region as official trainers of Specialist Registrars in Occupational Medicine for the Faculty of Occupational Medicine within the Royal College of Physicians. Further, early in 2005, we applied for training licenses of the same nature for our Northampton & London operations, and these were also granted.
It is very unusual for Occupational Health organisations in the independent sector, such as Medigold, to be granted two such licenses as appointed trainers for an NHS based qualification.
All Medigold OHP's belong to the FOM (Faculty of Occupational Medicine), SOM (Society of Occupational Medicine), the RSM (Royal Society of Medicine) and ALAMA (Association of Local Authority Medical Advisors). Some of the Medigold OHP's are also members of specific Associations such as FIMA (Food Industry Medical Advisors) or AAME (Association of Aviation Medical Examiners).
