What is included in our drug & alcohol testing services?

When we talk about safety in the workplace, few issues are as critical—or as complex—as drug and alcohol misuse. Every year, substance misuse affects thousands of workers across the UK. According to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), around three million workers in Great Britain are either at risk due to substance abuse or already dealing with its impacts in the workplace. Whether it’s absenteeism, reduced productivity, or impaired judgement on the job, the consequences can be highly detrimental, particularly in safety-critical industries such as construction, manufacturing, and logistics.
Employers have a legal and moral responsibility to maintain a safe working environment, and investing in comprehensive drug and alcohol testing and support services can be a key part of that.

Why workplace testing matters
Employee testing isn’t about catching people out—it’s about creating a culture of safety and support. It helps businesses identify potential issues early and provide support before problems escalate. Most importantly, it keeps everyone safe.
At Medigold Health, we understand that every organisation is different, which is why our Drug & Alcohol services are tailored to your specific needs. Whether you’re just getting started with testing or looking to improve your existing programme, we can help you build a proactive, compassionate and supportive approach to managing substance misuse at work.
What’s included in our Drug & Alcohol Testing and Support services?
Our end-to-end services are designed to support businesses throughout every stage of the process—from policy development to testing and post-result management.
Here’s a breakdown of what we offer:

Policy development and review
Before any testing begins, it’s essential to have a clear, legally compliant policy in place. We work closely with your business to develop or review your existing drug and alcohol policy, ensuring it reflects your organisation’s values while complying with all current health and safety requirements and fulfilling employment law and data protection obligations. We provide expert guidance on everything from consent and confidentiality to disciplinary procedures and employee support.
For-cause and post-incident testing
If you suspect substance misuse or an incident has occurred that could be linked to drugs or alcohol, we can also provide for-cause and post-incident testing services. Our mobile collection teams can attend your site quickly and discreetly, helping you take immediate action while minimising disruption.

Random testing
Our employee testing services include random testing for safety-sensitive roles. These tests are a powerful tool for preventing issues before they arise and can also act as a deterrent against substance misuse within the workforce.
We offer:
- Urine testing
- Oral fluid (saliva) testing
- Breath alcohol testing
- Hair testing (ideal for establishing longer-term patterns of use)
All tests are conducted following strict Chain of Custody protocols and in line with European Workplace Drug Testing Society (EWDTS) Guidelines to ensure results are legally defensible.
Pre employment testing
Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing serves as a clear communication tool, highlighting a company’s serious stance on drug and alcohol misuse to prospective employees and acts as a crucial filter to lessen the risks associated with substance misuse in the workplace.

Assurance testing
If you are supporting an employee who is going through rehabilitation for substance misuse, we can support you with developing a testing regime to ensure that they are making continued progress in their recovery and are fit to work safely.
Onsite and mobile testing options
We know that flexibility is key. Whether you operate from a single office or have multiple sites nationwide, we can deliver testing services that suit your needs and schedule. Should you not have suitable facilities for testing on-site, we can deploy one of our mobile units, or arrange a clinic locally.

Education, training and support
At Medigold Health, we believe in prevention as well as detection. Our services include employee awareness sessions and manager training to help your teams understand the risks of substance misuse, how to recognise the signs, and how to respond appropriately.
We also support organisations to develop wellbeing strategies that focus on long-term change – such as signposting employees to counselling services, implementing EAPs (Employee Assistance Programmes), and offering referrals to occupational health where needed.
Find out how we can support your organisation
If you’re ready to take a proactive approach to employee testing and workplace safety, we’re here to help. Whether you need policy advice, testing services, or just a conversation about where to begin, our expert team is ready to support you.
