Happy Small Business Saturday

02/12/22 – Blog, Small Business Support

Small Business Saturday is important to us here at Medigold Health as that’s exactly how we began, as a small family business. Here, we explain why we support the initiative and how we are working to protect the long-term health of small businesses.

What is Small Business Saturday?

Small Business Saturday is an annual campaign designed to shine a spotlight on the success of small businesses. Founded in the United States in 2010 by payment card brand American Express, the initiative’s main aim was to encourage people to support independent businesses within their communities by shopping ‘small.’

Due to the campaign’s success in America, the UK decided to follow suit and in 2013 celebrated the first Small Business Saturday UK. Since then, small organisations have taken advantage of the day by offering special deals and discounts, partnering up, or holding events to showcase their companies.

Why are we celebrating Small Business Saturday?

Although Medigold Health now employ over 700 employees, we began as a small family business, and we’ve never forgotten our roots. We’re always keen to champion other SMEs and the valuable products and services they provide. There are currently 5.5 million small businesses in the UK employing more than 16.3 million people, and they make a vital contribution to our economy, so it’s important that we all take the opportunity to celebrate, promote and support them and the people at their heart as much as we can.

How we’re working to Protect the long-term health of small businesses

It was our commitment to helping smaller businesses thrive that led us to develop and launch Medigold Health Protect, an annual package of essential occupational health and clinical support services exclusively for organisations with fewer than 350 employees, to help them keep their people in work, safe and well and enable them to benefit from our highquality corporate health and wellbeing solutions at an affordable monthly cost.
